Summary

Passaic County Community College selected our team through a competitive bid process to upgrade the rigging and lighting infrastructure in their black box theater.

The project centered around installing a custom 49’ x 42’ overhead pipe grid built from a 4’ x 4’ steel pipe system, creating a flexible rigging layout that allows lighting, scenery, and production equipment to be positioned anywhere in the space. This type of grid is essential for black box theaters, where stage layouts frequently change depending on the performance.

To support lighting and power distribution across the grid, we installed an ETC ColorSource Raceway connector strip with integrated power circuits, work light kits, and DMX connectivity. This system provides clean power and control access throughout the rigging structure and is designed specifically for modern LED lighting setups.

Lighting control is handled through a Strand NEO console with a touchscreen interface and multiple DMX universes, giving students and staff professional-level lighting control for productions and classroom use.

The result is a highly adaptable technical environment that allows the black box theater to support a wide range of performances, productions, and learning experiences.
